How it works

  1. 01Pick the key count (4, 6 or 8), a pattern and a goal in Settings.
  2. 02Press the key highlighted in amber — measurement starts on that keystroke.
  3. 03Keep following the order shown; the result appears when you hit the goal.
  4. 04Export the result as an image or a link, and your personal best is stored per condition.

Rolling & trill practice tips

Chase deviation before speed

Fast sections are cleared by an even hand, not a quick one. Two runs with the same average KPS but 10ms and 30ms of gap deviation get judged completely differently. Don't raise your target KPS until the deviation is down to a single digit.

A trill is one motion, not two

If you count a DF trill as two separate presses, one of them is always late. Treat the two hits as a single beat rocked from the wrist and the gaps close on their own. Run the Trill preset for 30 seconds and watch only the deviation.

Roll with the hand, not the fingers

A staircase roll is the hand rolling from the little finger to the index, not four independent presses. When the notes in the lane form an evenly spaced diagonal, the roll landed.

Use Random to audit muscle memory

Drill one pattern long enough and your hand memorises it, so KPS climbs without you reading anything. If your KPS collapses on the Random pattern, what improved was recall, not reading speed.

Short and often

Ten 30-second runs beat one 5-minute run. Deviation is the first thing to fall apart when a hand tires, and practising past that point trains the broken rhythm. That's what the day streak is there to count.

FAQ

What is KPS?
Keys per second. This tool reports the average KPS across the whole run (first hit to last) and, separately, the peak KPS — the most hits landed inside any one second. What rhythm-game players usually call burst speed is the peak number.
Can I use it to practise ADOFAI?
Yes. ADOFAI speed sections are mostly trills (two keys alternating) and rolls (staircases), so the Trill, Up and Down presets let you drill exactly those two motions. You can also type a real chart's key order into the custom pattern and loop just that passage.
Where are my records stored?
In your browser's localStorage only. Nothing is sent to a server and there is no account. That also means records don't follow you to another device or a private window, and clearing browser data clears them.
Why was a run not saved?
If the gaps between keys are shorter than a human hand can produce, or the average speed is implausibly high, the run is treated as key repeat or automated input and left out of your records — a personal best stuck at an unreachable number would make every later run meaningless.
Does it work on mobile?
You can tap the on-screen keypad, but it isn't recommended. What is being measured is millisecond-level gaps between keystrokes, and on touch those gaps measure the screen's response rather than your hand. Use a device with a physical keyboard.
